REFLECTION AND ACTION

Washington County Community Remembrance Project

As a dedicated and active grassroots coalition, we invite community participation and involvement on many levels. Here are a few ways to contribute, share and/or reflect and grow after learning about Aaron, Anthony and Randall’s experience in Northwest Arkansas:

WAYS TO REFLECT OR GET INVOLVED

ENTER THE RACIAL JUSTICE ESSAY CONTEST

As a component of the historical marker project, the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) also sponsors an essay contest for public high school students. Students in grades 9-12 are challenged to write an essay that reflects on a historical event and connects it to present-day issues and their lived experiences. EJI typically chooses 4 to 5 winners and awards at least $5,000 in scholarships and prizes. The winners are publicly announced during the dedication of the historical marker in their community and the first place winner is asked to read their essay during the program.

ATTEND THE MEMORIAL

The purpose of this project is to first and foremost memorialize the lives of Aaron, Anthony and Randall — the three historic victims of racial terror in Washington county. We aim to dedicate a long-lasting memorial marker in honor of their lives.
